At a 15th anniversary event held on June 18, 2022, an anime film by Twin Engine was announced. Kenji Nakamura was set to make a return to direct the film. The Movie, then simply titled "Mononoke the Movie" was originally scheduled to premiere in 2023, however, in February 2023, it was announced that the film would be delayed to beyond 2023. Additionally, Takahiro Sakurai, who was returning to reprise the role of the Medicine Seller, was removed from the cast of the film. An official kickstarter campaign[1] was launched to fund the movie, providing backers with different tiers of rewards based on their amount contributed. The kickstarter accomplished well beyond its 3 million yen goal, ending on 14th August 2022 at a grand total of approximately 8 million yen.[2]
It was later announced, that the movies will span a trilogy, starting with Mononoke: Karakasa.
Till date, two of the three movies have been released in Japan. Mononoke: Karakasa has also been released on Netflix, available to watch with both English subtitles and dubbing.
