About[]

The "Zashiki-warashi" (座敷 (ざしき) 童子 (わらし) ?) are ghost-like beings resembling young children. They are considered benevolent spirits, and bringers of good fortune.
In the Zashiki-warashi arc, the Zashiki-warashi turned into Mononoke after adopting the grudges held by the unborn fetuses who were buried in the walls of a room of the former brothel, where the abortions would take place.

Appearance[]

The Zashiki-warashi are small spirits that resemble children. They have purple eyes with dark pupils, and have tufts of brown hair atop their heads. They wear a Dudou (a traditional Chinese undergarment often worn by infants or toddlers) with a Taijitu symbol.

Story[]

The Zashiki-warashi had first appeared to protect Shino after she was nearly assassinated. It was later revealed that the inn was a former brothel, and the unborn fetuses of the prostitutes were aborted in one of its rooms. These spirits harboured a deep grudge, as they wished to be born into the world, an opportunity that was taken from them.
